I'm looking to replace my hard drive (250gb just doesn't seem enough for me) and I'd love to keep it under $150. However, after looking around online, I read about a limit to how much you can upgrade (if your data exceeds the limit, overheating may occur.) So I'd like to hear your recommendations and/or experience before purchasing a new hard drive. I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro 15-inch with 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

What can I do to create more space on my MacBook Pro? My friend and I have about the same number of songs, because we love music, and he has way more space. Any tips?

There’s a lot of variables given the way you’ve asked the question. Do you have more videos? Are your songs captured at a higher quality? Have you cleared out caches lately?

Fret not, there’s a great (free!) utility for figuring out, “Where’d all my storage go?!”

It’s called Disk Inventory X. Check it out! I use it all the time.

I have a macbook pro ti 2.16ghz 2gb ram. 320gb but with my iphoto library, my hd space is almost always down between 1 - 5gb.
My question is how do i speed up my computer because it seems to me that my apps hang a lot. Especially if i run photoshop, mail, firefox and vlc together. My vlc turns choppy (audio is there but video is stuck). It seems like im running out of memory. Am i right?

Yes you’re right! Your Mac needs temporary space on the hard drive to work at its fullest potential. The space that you have left is too small for everything you want to do. Sounds like it’s time for a bigger drive :)
