I'm having a dilemma. You see, when my Mac was purchased it was booted up without me and I don't know if they(my dad) set up a password. How do I change my password without knowing it?

Boot it from the OS Install disc. Under the Utilities menu there’s a password reset tool. See Apple’s site. It applies to 10.6 as well.

Hello! For some odd reason the eject button has disappeared from the sidebar in Finder windows for just one of my external drives. I can still eject it with the keyboard shortcut or by dragging it to the trash, and both my others act fine. I'm confused. Ideas?
Cheers!

You could spend a bunch of time running this one down, but the easiest thing to do is likely to “shoot buckshot” at the problem.

Go to your Home folder, into Library, Preferences and look for com.apple.Finder.plist. Toss it in the trash - don’t worry, it’s fine to do that. Then either:

  • Restart
  • Logout then Login
  • Force quit the Finder (so it restarts)

This will reset the Finder to its default settings - window views, sidebar prefs etc. That should cure your ills.
