Listen to me: Jeff Bezos has his own space program. I never tire of saying that. This is clearly not a man who’s intimidated by the scale of a project or the expense. If there’s a real chance of success, he’s willing to pour in the money, the focus and the motivation that are necessary for his people make it happen.

I think tablets are stupid in general, but what the hell went through the minds of the people at RIM when they released this thing without any preinstalled applications and priced as much as its competitors? They have just failed, epically.
What’s worse is that the ‘bridge’ feature is still in Beta. What RIM is going to do is forever cripple the feature set in the minds of consumers. No matter what they do, the “it can’t do email on its own and you need another Blackberry to get it on a cellular connection” mindset will prevail.
They’d save face if they pulled the e-brake on release, admitted it wasn’t quite ready yet, and made sure they released a finished product. Or, as finished as it can be with no apps available for it yet.
You see how Apple did it all now? They built the ecosystem and then the device. The first iPhone didn’t do any apps other than the ones Apple put on it. Then they built the AppStore. Then they unleashed an iPhone and OS that really took advantage of it.
With the ecosystem (iTunes & AppStore) in place, they only then released the tablet.
RIM’s doing it all kids of ass backwards.
vb:
Adobe just released an SDK so developers can build iPad apps that control Photoshop on your computer. And they announced three of their own!
- Easel - Paint on your iPad, beam it to Photoshop.
- Nav - Navigate open files and put your tools pallets on your iPad.
- Color Lava - Mix up color swatches on your iPad, beam ‘em to Photoshop.
Each runs on your iPad and interacts with Photoshop over WiFi.
p.s. Adobe, iPad-based Lightroom editing, plz! KTHXBAI!
Awesome
I’ve considered it, yeah :) I just need someone that has one so I can test it out.
Beats the crap out of me. I’m still trying to shill my handmade iPhone cases to buy an iPad :)
I’ve got a ways to go.
And I’m jealous you have one.
