This is going to be the dumbest question you'll ever receive, I'm warning you now. About two seconds ago, my mac decided to drop from my bed onto my floor- about a 2-2.5 foot drop. This is the first time it's fallen. How significant is the damage going to be if there is any at all? Im in a state of panic right now.

Well, if it’s got a solid state drive in it like the MacBook Air, your data is likely fine.

If you’ve got a normal hard drive in it there’s a chance the drive heads clanged against the platter possibly damaging the drive, but if it’s a Mac that’s been made in the last 5 or 6 years it has something called a Sudden Motion Sensor whereby if your Mac detects a drop (with accelerometers) it will park the hard drive so that it has a greatly reduced chance of damaging your data on the drive.

Physical damage (like dents) are too unpredictable for me to say if other components are ok. If you had things plugged into the ports, you have a greater chance of damaging the logic board, but otherwise, give it a good look and note any damage sustained. If you’ve got some, drop me a note and we’ll see what’s what.

This is my iPhone.

Fuck.

I’ve dropped it exactly one time. It landed face down in the parking lot of Staples… on a pointy bit of asphalt so a case wouldn’t have even helped it.

I’m not eligible for an upgrade until December. Even more of a fuck… an iPhone replacement at full price.

I’ve ordered some parts and in a few days I’m going to show you how you too can be an iPhone surgeon.

last night my cat knocked over a vase of flowers onto my computer and it got soaked! luckily it was on a cushy chair, so that absorbed a lot of the water, but it’s not doing so good. at the moment it’s sitting in a tray full of rice. i’m hoping that’ll get some of the water out. i have no idea if this is covered (since i’ve only had my computer for 6 months). i tried to turn it on after a few hours and it started up but then just shut off. there is a faint green glow from the chord when i plugged it in for a minute. any advice?

1. Take out the battery. You don’t want any juice in there.

2. Keep it in the rice.

3. Keep it in the rice longer than you think is needed (days is good)

4. Pray.

5. No it’s not covered by AppleCare. Though, if you purchased it on a card like Amex, they may just reimburse you. Check that route. Also, if you’re a homeowner, your homeowner’s insurance may cover it (mine does - yay Progressive!) or if you’re a renter, that’s a possibility on renter’s insurance as well.

6. Pray again.

Good luck!!!
