Anonymous asked: I have a white MacBook and once a couple of years ago I was really stupid and deleted some important drivers and such while trying to free up space on my hard drive. Now Photobooth doesn't work... or anything that relies on my camera. I tried Googling for relevant drivers but couldn't find anything. Help?

thestaticbot asked: Hey, I would also like to thank you for your advice. today I installed 4GBs of ram in my MBP 15'' and it works like a charm. next upgrade. more HDD. My drive is 160GB @ 5400rpm, would you recommend a 320gb at the same rpm or its worth to buy a 7200rpm?(what about the heating?). The more horse power the better since I work a lot in photoshop/lightroom/final cut pro.

Domain name advanced tips
After you’ve got your domain name, you can start aggregating all of the online stuff you do into your new domain. Do you have a Flickr account? Instead of www.flickr.com/photos/<yourflickrname> you can make it photos.mydomain.com for example. Twitter? Make it tweets.mydomain.com How do you do this? It’s called an ‘A Record’ and basically redirects your pages to...

Get your own domain name
Not a Mac-specific tip, but a good one I think. Think that having your own domain name is a task reserved for the über-geek? Think again. Think it’s expensive? Also, think again. Think you’ll be constantly worried about maintaining things like your email? Not so. The most expensive part about getting a domain name is the name itself. And, I’m talking about less than $20 a year....

johnnash asked: Thanks for your reply.

To clarify something in response to your post. My time machine is across the network and I'm attached via ethernet to it about 80% , so it's not a USB priority thing that I can see when it comes to the mouse. To further clarify, the issue occurs not only if connected via wifi but also when connected via the Ethernet controller. I had some some...

herhitlerhairdo asked: I have a 2008, 24" 3.06ghz iMac, and it is still covered under my purchased Apple Care protection plan. This past fall, I started noticing slight freeze-up issues and lag in the machine, while running everyday, run of the mill tasks (i.e. Firefox, Mail, iTunes). When I installed Snow Leopard, the freeze-ups became much more pronounced and frustrating, until the computer finally stopped...

johnnash asked: I have a late 2008 MBP and was wondering if you know how to fix the issue with a blue tooth mouse becoming VERRRRY laggy when a time machine or WIFI intensive operation kicks off. I've mitigated the issue by using a separate bluetooth connector via a USB port but it seems a waste.

Thanks in advance,

John

Live from the Apple 'latest creation' event |... →
Don’t forget, Apple’s media event will be kicking off shortly, at 1pm Eastern (10am Pacific, 6pm London, 7pm Paris & Berlin) Engadget is a great place to see live coverage. They’re usually a few minutes behind on details of some of the other live coverage sites, but they really punch it up with tons of photos.

Anonymous asked: My Mac cannot function without a charger. Once the charger falls off the computer completely shuts down. The battery sign has an "x" on it also. Does it mean my battery is completely dead? Or can I do something to fix it without buying a new battery?

mareen asked: Sometimes Spotlight shows me a result of exactly what I was looking for, then I double click the folder and an error message pops up, saying the location is not correct anymore, but it then works on second try.
How do I reinitialize Spotlight?

shinaka asked: Hi, I love reading your blog - it's really educated me about Macs! I would like to know if there is an image batch renamer program especially made for Mac OS X. I ask this because I typically deal with a lot of images on my harddrive and I have developed a system of naming those files by what general category they belong to, and then underscores in the file name for more specific attributes....

AT&T just lowered their unlimited plan to $69.00
Writer-a submits the AT&T price drop on unlimited plans. Originally, he indicated that it was $69.00 a month for unlimited iPhone plans. This, however, is not correct. The $69 only covers voice. With the iPhone, you’re required to purchase a data plan with it which pushes the price up to $99 a month. Granted, if you’re on an iPhone with unlimted voice and data you can certainly...

ndeddiemac asked: Love the site, some great tips. I have a 15 in Macbook Pro (2.2) but it only has 1GB of RAM. Especially since the snow leopard update I've had some issues with slowdown. I want to upgrade my memory, but was a little turned off by Apple's prices. Do I have to use the ones that Apple sells or will others from random brands work? Also, will installing it void my warranty, and how much...

Anonymous asked: I have a imac w/Intel Core2duo 3.06 GHz. It has 4 GB of RAM. 1 PB of disk. Seems like it should be pretty speedy - which it was, when I first got it. It's slowed down considerably since then. I don't do a lot of big things - occasionally a video compression, but mostly email, web dev (photoshop, dreamweaver) and web browsing, so I don't think I ask a lot of it. Any tips on how to...

What case should I get for my MacBook?
Frequently asked, seldom answered sufficiently. The first tip that I can give with this is to make sure you get something with lots of pockets and compartments.  Those sleeves that protect your Mac are great, but seldom do they have enough (or neigh, any) pockets for all the doo-dads that are common with a portable computer. Second, make sure your case is made for your computer.  In the event of...

3djon asked: using a unibody macbook pro: if I set to power management to "better battery life" when I use a GPU/CPU intensive app will I get the most out of the 9600M GT? or are the Nvidia chips always in hybrid mode no matter what power profile I use?

crudmudgeon asked: Before I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I could load my main iTunes library from my iMac on my MacBook over my wireless network. I used to be able to see the shared library in the left hand column of iTunes. Since the upgrade I haven't figured out where to find that shared library from my MacBook. Where did it go?

nattyboo asked: So, not even a month ago, I had accidentally spilled a bit of coffee on my macbook's touchpad. I quickly wiped it off, of course, but I found that when I went to scroll around it wouldn't. I shut it down using the power button, and turned it back on to see if that would fix it and it did for the scrolling at least. The clicking on the touchpad would not work, and if it did it was because...
